How often does my website need a backup?

Quick answer

Ideally daily and automatic — especially if your site updates often (blog, online store) — so you never lose more than a day's worth of work if something goes wrong.

Many treat website backups as “something we’ll do when we remember” — until it’s urgently needed and there’s no recent copy to restore.

Why frequency matters

A hacked site, a failed plugin update, or a management mistake can break your site in seconds. Without a recent backup, restoring means either rebuilding from scratch or losing recent content.

What frequency fits you

If your site rarely changes (once or twice a year), weekly backups are enough. If you run an online store or an active blog, daily backups are essential — every lost order or article is a real cost.

  • Static brochure site: weekly is enough
  • Active store/blog: daily backups essential
  • Always automatic — not something you “remember” to do
